CDO Workforce Summer Youth Program Wraps Up

Walton-Goat-200

The Delaware County Summer Employment Program placed youth across Delaware County in summer jobs in their own communities.

These work experiences helped young people to improve their workplace skills, develop positive contacts and explore fields of interest.

The CDO Staff and Worksite Supervisors worked hard to develop the skills that today's youth need to be successful, not only in their summer job placements, but in all of their future employment endeavors.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to serve youth in our community," said the Delaware County Summer Youth Program Staff.

"Thank you to Delaware County Department of Social Services/Office of Temporary Disability Assistance, The O'Connor Foundation, and The Walton Fairground Board for making the Delaware County Youth Program possible through your generosity."

"And of course to all of the youth that worked so hard this summer, we thank you for your dedication and participation. May you be successful in all of your future endeavors."

Listening is the Tipping Point

Listen-Thumb

On Saturday, September 16, under the theme of “Tipping Point,” eight TED X presenters spoke about leadership skills, human potential, benefits of charitable works and about gratitude.

The event was held at the Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center in Oneonta. About 100 guests attended and listened to speakers and participated in exercises.

The presenter that traveled furthest for the event was Emma Doyle, a tennis coach from Australia, who spoke about "Unleashing Female Potential."

She discussed coaching style-- and emphasized that asking players how they would approach an unsuccessful play differently is more constructive than identifying “what went wrong.” She said listening builds trust that helps players to unleash their potential.

“Listening is the tipping point,” she said, a message that applies on and off the court.

There were about 20 co-sponsors for the TED X even, including Chobani, Hartwick College and CDO Workforce.
