Cost of training weighing your business down?

Use On-the-Job Training funds to help cover the costs

The CDO Workforce New York One-Stop System has On-the-Job Training (OJT) Funds available. The OJT funding provides companies with an incentive to hire and train individuals who lack the specific skills or experience for a job. OJT is appropriate for occupations where classroom training is not suitable and for which specific job skills can be learned by a worker while engaged in useful work. This program is for full-time (at least 32 hours per week) employment and cannot be used for seasonal, commission, or 1099 employment opportunities. The desired starting wage for the OJT program is $10.00 per hour.

Business OJT users apply their own methods to teach workers the new skills necessary for successful employment within their company, while the trainee is performing productive tasks. OJT contracts can be written between $1,000 to $2,000 per trainee depending on amount of training provided.

As a Business Using OJTs:

  • You make the hiring decision
  • You determine the job performance standards
  • You retain the right to terminate a trainee
  • You do not need to worry about paperwork; it's handled efficiently by our OJT Representative
  • You receive between 50% reimbursement of the trainee's wages for the training period
  • We reimburse you with prompt payments

Eligible OJT Candidates are unemployed workers. Reimbursement is 50% of newly hired employee's regular wage rate. The length of training time (which determines reimbursement amount) will vary and is determined by candidates training needs.

A CDO Workforce representative will start the process and assist the business in identifying candidates, writing the OJT Training Outline and Contract. Employment must be for a profit or not-for-profit business at a NYS location. For more information regarding grants and other CDO Workforce Business Services contact: Tylena Daniels at (607)-334-2201 X 128 / OR April Feyh at 607-561-7550 /

Please Note: A signed OJT Contract must be in place before the candidate physically starts work, so please contact the Business Rep as soon as possible and before the candidate starts working. Contracts cannot be back-dated. Please note that obtaining an OJT contract will be contingent on funding availability, and the eligibility of the individual being hired must be confirmed.
